Texas Execution

Texas carried out its 18th execution of 2008 tonight in Huntsville.  It was the 423rd in the state since 1982, and the last Texas execution this year.

AP has this report on the execution of Robert Hudson.

Texas has by far the most active death chamber in the United States accounting for more than 37% of all the executions in America. Texas has carried out more than half of the executions in America during 2008.  Tonight's execution was the 35th in the nation this year; the 1,134th since 1977.

Capital Defense Weekly lists five scheduled executions in other states in the month of December. As noted in this post, an execution is scheduled in Kentucky tomorrow night.

Though Texas does not have any scheduled executions in December, nine executions are already scheduled in the state for 2009.  TDCJ maintains this list of scheduled executions.
