Texas carried out its first execution of 2012, last night in Huntsville. It was the state's 478th post-Furman execution since 1982, and the 239th execution conducted under the administration of Rick Perry. He became Governor of Texas in December 2000.
Texas has the most active death chamber in the nation, accounting for more than 37% of the nation's executions. To date, there have been two executions in America this year; a total of 1,279 post-Furman executions since 1977.

According to TDCJ, five execution dates have been set thus far in 2012; one was recently stayed. The nexte executions are scheduled for February 28th and 29th.
