That's the headline in the Houston Chronicle reporting on Gilbert Amezquita's first hours of freedom. LINK
He and his family had the church to themselves Friday morning. They sat patiently for more than an hour, waiting for the head pastor to come and bless the homecoming they were celebrating.
And after the blessing, Amezquita said he didn't want to talk anymore about the eight years he had served in prison for a crime that he insists he didn't commit.
He just wanted to go home and sleep.
"It's been a living hell," he said.
Amezquita, 29, and his extended family went to the church, just north of downtown, hours after he walked out of the Harris County Jail. His release resulted from an order by the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals that he be set free or given a new trial.
