The Houston Chronicle reports this morning that the final witnesses are expected to testify today. After closing statements the jury will decide whether or not Tyrone Williams receives a death sentence. LINK
Prosecutors have said Williams merits a death sentence because by not freeing the immigrants trapped in his trailer, he intentionally committed an act of violence that caused the deaths.
Family and friends from Jamaica, where Williams was born, describe him as a good person who was raised in a loving and caring environment and would never hurt anybody.
Craig Washington, Williams' lead attorney, has said his client never intended for the immigrants to die and blamed the deaths on other members of the smuggling ring who overstuffed the trailer.
