Texas is scheduled to carry out its 14th execution of the year, tonight in Huntsville. It would be the state's 461st execution since 1982. Texas has far and away the most active death chamber in America, accounting for more than 37% of the nation's post-Furman executions.

Convicted killer Michael Perry is headed to the Texas death chamber contending that he was wrongly condemned for gunning down a nurse at her home north of Houston and stealing her car nine years ago.
The 28-year-old Perry Thursday evening would be the 14th prisoner executed this year in Texas, the nation's busiest death penalty state. Another Texas inmate, Jonathan Green, won a court reprieve hours before he could have been put to death Wednesday.
Perry's lawyers have asked the U.S. Supreme Court to stop his execution, arguing they have new evidence showing Perry already was in jail when 50-year-old Sandra Stotler was murdered in 2001. They also contend a friend of Perry's killed Stotler.
To date, there have been 29 executions in the nation in 2010, and 1,217 executions since 1977.
Houston's KPFT-FM will host Execution Watch on the web and it's HD radio broadcast signal beginning at 6:00 p.m. (CDT), tonight.According to TDCJ, three more executions are scheduled in Texas during 2010. More execution dates will likely be set by state district courts this year.
