The University of Iowa College of Law reports:
Professor David Baldus died peacefully at home early this morning. Please join us in extending our deepest sympathies to the Baldus family and in feeling gratitude for the opportunity to have known this great man.
He was known for his studies on race and the death penalty, especially his landmark work in the 1986 Supreme Court case, McCleskey v. Kemp. He was the co-author of Statistical Proof of Discrimination (1980) and Equal Justice and the Death Penalty (1990.)
He co-wrote the chapter on McCleskey v. Kemp for Capital Punishment Stories, and was a participant in 2007 symposium at UT Law which featured contributors to the book.
