"Malloy poised to sign death penalty repeal," is from the Waterbury Republican-American.
Gov. Dannel P. Malloy says he expects to quietly sign the repeal of the death penalty into law sometime this week.
The legislature voted earlier this month to prospectively abolish capital punishment, positioning Connecticut to become the 17th state to eliminate the death penalty.
The Office of the Secretary of the State passed the historic legislation along to Malloy on Friday.
Malloy is not planning on making a show of signing the measure. There will be no bill signing ceremony.
"I understand that this is a very sensitive issue and I am trying to do it in a respectful fashion," Malloy said.
