Texas carried out its fifth execution of 2013, last night in Huntsville. It was the 497th post-Furman Texas execution since 1982, and the 258th execution conducted under the administration of Governor Rick Perry. Texas has the nation's most active death chamber and accounts for more than 37% of the executions in America's death penalty states.

A Texas death row inmate convicted of killing a fellow drug dealer while robbing him outside of a Waco convenience store 10 years ago was executed Tuesday evening.
In the seconds before being injected with a lethal dose of pentobarbital, Carroll Joe Parr told his victim's wife she should talk to her brother to learn "the truth about what happened to your husband."
To date, there have been 11 executions in American death penalty states this year; a total of 1,331 post-Furman executions since 1977.
According to TDCJ, 10 additional execution dates have been set for 2013.
