For the first time in a dozen years, Nebraska has a new attorney general.
Doug Peterson, a Republican, will replace Jon Bruning, who entered the governor's race and was defeated in the primary. Peterson defeated Janet Stewart, a Democrat who practices law in Fremont.

On some of the bigger issues, Peterson, like his predecessor, has said he would be aggressive in trying to find the appropriate lethal injection drugs to effectively carry out Nebraska's death penalty and believes Nebraska’s constitutional amendment limiting marriage to that between a man and a woman is constitutionally sound.
